Before I begin, here is a cautionary tale about how certain sentiments should never be posted online – ever, even if meant for private consumption. Here is a summary:

An Atenean colegiala posted very unflattering comments about her immersion experience with an Aeta tribe on a friends-only, meaning restricted, section of her Facebook account. A confidante, probably shocked at her words, then took screenshots of her entries and distributed them by email; given the inflammatory nature of her remarks, it immediately went viral. A virtual lynching ensued. She eventually replied to the many accusations against her.

After reading the commentary about her on the blogs, a good deal of the remarks against her were uncalled for. At the end of the day, she merely put her foot in her mouth, an offense I’m certain we all have been guilty of, in one degree or the other, at some points in our lives, with some more often than most.

I suppose the woman is right. Barring any real-world consequences like a failing grade in the Theology class that required her to live with the tribe, this incident will blow over in a few days or so as the Philippine blogosphere focuses on some other issue and she can resume her life in peace. Of course there are those pesky unfavorable search engine results in Google and Yahoo, but who cares eh?

Moving on.

For fans of Royce’ chocolates: no more need to take a trip to Hong Kong to buy these delectable Japanese sweets. Chuvaness says an official Royce’ shop is now open at the third floor of the Powerplant Mall inside the Rockwell Center in Makati City. Annalyn says that at most the prices quoted by this shop are about 10 percent more expensive than in Hong Kong. Major credit cards accepted. Phone (02) 492-5051.

Manuel Viloria has a tip on what to do with bath soap chips. In my case, I save these slivers and put them on a tray beside the kitchen sink and use these to wash my hands with. Do you know that ordinary soap is as effective as the anti-bacterial kind in getting rid of germs from your hands?

The Life & Times of the Renzie Man is amazed at the amount of spare change he has accumulated over the past few months. It does add up: the last time I gathered up all of my coins at home I was able to collect about PHP 650 worth, plus a one Macanese pataca coin. You can do the same and help the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas alleviate the country’s chronic coin shortage – they were in short supply even as far back as 1917 – at the same time by putting these coins back into circulation.

It’s not as if the Philippines is the only country dealing with a shortage of coins. Take India for example, where its coins, like its Philippine counterparts, are melted down for their metal content Argentina is also afflicted with a coin shortage but, oddly enough, one really knows why.

Another Hundred Years Hence points to a very interesting book on his reading list: The Big Necessity: The Unmentionable World of Human Waste and Why It Matters. I’d like to read it but I am now plowing through two other books: Biography of the Dollar: How the Mighty Buck Conquered the World and Why It’s Under Siege and The Judgment of Paris: The Revolutionary Decade That Gave the World Impressionism.
