Canon Ixus 110 IS Digicam Mini Review

The Canon Ixus 110 IS digital camera

Oops, I almost forgot that there was one other noteworthy digital camera that Canon Philippines introduced into the Philippine market a couple of weeks ago: the Canon Ixus 110 IS digital camera.

Also known as the Canon Digital Elph SD 960 IS in the United States, this new Canon digicam packs these interesting features:

  • 12.1 megapixels
  • 4x optical zoom
  • DIGIC 4 processor
  • Optical image stabilizer
  • HD movie recording at 720p
  • Zoom 5 – 20 mm. lens (35 mm. equivalent 28 – 112 mm.), f/2.8 – 5.8
  • 2.8 in. PureColor LCD screen

What I particularly like about the Canon Ixus 110 IS digicam is its relatively uncluttered rear panel with many of the buttons that one would normally find on a point-and-shoot camera replaced by a wheel-and-button combo. Reviewing pictures taken with this camera is made easier not only with its bigger, 16:9 wide aspect LCD screen but also with a feature called Active Display where the user need only gently shake the Ixus 110 IS to shift from one photo to the next.

A HDMI interface is included with the Canon Ixus 110 IS, with the HDMI cable apparently included with this digicam’s sales package.

Note the dedicated switch to the left of the Canon Ixus 110 IS that selects the general shooting modes of this digicam – movie, still, and auto.

The Canon Ixus 110 IS can shoot pictures at ISO 3200. Apart from this, the other shooting modes available with this digicam are: Auto, P, Portrait, Night Snapshot, Kids & Pets, Indoor, Sunset, Fireworks, Long Shutter, Beach, Underwater, Aquarium, Foliage, Snow, Digital Macro, Color Accent, Color Swap, Stitch Assist, and Movie.

Available colors are black, gold, red, and silver.

The price of the Canon Ixus 110 IS in the Philippines is PHP 23,950 and includes a free 2 gigabyte SD card and a camera case in the sales package.
