Comments That Keep on Going and Going
Mark of Clickmomukhamo probably wanted to do favor to the Alliance française de Manille and the Mowelfund Film Institute by posting their joint announcement regarding a Filipino short film mini festival way back in 2001, but I suppose he never dreamt this entry becoming a magnet for indolent students – and very demanding to boot – from around the Philippines. No doubt to Mark’s neverending amusement, all 286 (and counting) of them.
At one time or another, Google probably ranked Mark’s July 2001 entry as the number one search result for the author Rogelio Sikat and for the short film Impeng Negro. So, when a visitor posted a question in Filipino asking for Sikat’s biography, then followed by another asking Mark to post five examples each of “anekdota, epiko, parabula, at tula” (anecdotes, epics, parables, and poems), and a synopsis of the films Impeng Negro and Anino, Google’s search engine magic took over and this post has since become a landmark for students too lazy to go to the library or to be persistent enough in searching the Internet to locate the information they want and finish their homework.
It’s entirely possible that these students may not have access to a well-stocked library or to a library at that, but what strikes me is their temerity in treating the blog as some sort of public service and insolence in demanding an immediate reply from the blog owner.
To think Mark isn’t the only one so afflicted; take Emer’s The Bangus Supremacy. For some mysterious reason his 2002 year-end post and an entry about Star Wars origami has become a magnet too for students looking for material about Lualhati Bautista and her works and contemporary Philippine movies like Mano Po. One was particularly desperate for an immediate reply:
“saan po makakakuha ng talambuhay ni LUALHATI BAUTISTA???
