A Binondo Treat

I spent Wednesday afternoon visiting my shop at the Tutuban Centermall, located at the heart of Manila’s Divisoria wholesale district. To attempt to bring a car to this place at this time of year is sheer and utter madness, so I made my way by jeepney and on foot.

Fried siopao

The return trip to the train station was just as bad, so I decided to walk back and drop by this nameless Chinese delicatessen at the corner of Ongpin Street and Bermuda Street for some fried siopao [Some people describe them as Shanghai-style fried siopao - Ed.] – Mrs. Unlawyer asked for some – before resuming my rounds.

From C.M. Recto Avenue, walk towards the Arranque Market and to Teodora Alonzo Street, home to the famous Ling Nam Noodle and Wanton Factory, and walk towards Ongpin Street. Make a right turn. Less than 20 m. away on the left is the esquinita that is Bermuda Street. The fried siopao shop is immediately next.

A dozen will cost about PHP 140. Proper refrigeration will keep them edible for about a week, but I’m certain these buns will be consumed sooner.
