Add More Channels To Your Dream Satellite TV: Updated July 2008!
I recently subscribed to Dream satellite TV and I discovered that it is possible to tune the set-top box (STB) that came with it to receive free-to-air (FTA) programs being broadcast on the other transponders of the Agila 2 satellite where Dream’s service is being transmitted.
My current setup is made up of a Homecast eM-150US receiver hooked up to a 60 cm. satellite dish with a universal Ku-band LNB pointed to Agila 2 [I also have another dish pointed to Eutelsat W5, but that's another story - Ed.] with so at the moment I can only receive such FTA programs being broadcast on that satellite’s Ku-band transponders. There are other FTA programs available on C-band, but that requires the installation of another, larger satellite dish and a LNB for proper reception, so this discussion will limit itself to just the plain-vanilla Dream satellite TV setup.
I first consulted the Lyngsat website in order to obtain the parameters to be able to tune in to the exact frequencies for the FTA programs on Agila 2’s Ku-band transponders. After some trial and error, I discovered three frequencies that delivered the goods:

You can watch the Taiwanese Christian religious broadcaster Good TV 2 on this frequency. Chinese-language programs are the norm here, with the occasional English-language show thrown in.
Together with 12601(V), Pol. 30000, FEC 3/4, these are the parameters of Taiwanese direct-to-home broadcaster 146Sky. Almost all of its channels are encrypted except for a barker channel, and one showing ETTV Drama, and another containing programming from the Tzu Chi Foundation.
This bouquet contains the following free-to-air (FTA) channels like The Karaoke Channel, MAX TV, UniversiTV, and the AMA University distance-learning channel; and two audio-only channels like Magic 89.9 and RJ 100.3. Flip TV which used to be FTA is now encrypted.
This bouquet also contains a bunch of radio channels: GV FM 99.1 and GV AM 792 broadcasting out of Angeles City, Pampanga, Catholic broadcaster Radio Maria, and surprise, surprise, RJ 100.3 once again.
This combination will allow you to receive the following religious channels: the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) as well as TBN affiliates JCTV, The Church Channel, and Smile of a Child. Independent religious broadcasters God’s Learning Channel and The Overcomer Ministry [Audio only - Ed.] are also included in this bouquet.
Only one channel operates out of this frequency, and that is DaAi TV operated by the Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation.

Hello Connie; the Lifestyle Network is relayed on C-band via the PAS 8 satellite and is encrypted to boot, sorry.
AFAIK, the Food Network channel is only available in North America.

Hi Bert,
Yes you can but under certain conditions:
First, you will need a bigger dish, bigger than the 60 cm. kind supplied by Dream, in order to achieve consistent quality reception of 3ABN from ABS-1. If you look at the south beam footprint map of ABS-1 on Lyngsat, you will need at least a 90 cm. dish for Luzon.
You can receive 3ABN with a 60 cm. dish but reception will be only fair at best.
Second, since ABS-1 is quite far to the west, the dish’s elevation will be quite low, about 30 degrees or so. Your dish will need to be installed at a height in order to clear obstructions on the horizon.
Third, aside from the extra dish, LNB, and coax cable, you will also need a DiSEqC switch so you can change the dish in use without physically disconnnecting the cable to the dishes when you want to view channels from one satellite to another.

Yes Mars. The Karaoke Channel is also being broadcast on the Ku band from Aguila 2 and all you need is to enter these parameters I mentioned above into your satellite receiver.

If you look at the satellite footprint maps for Agila 2, for C-band you will need at least a 1.5 m. dish while for Ku-band a 60 cm. dish is sufficient, with a larger-sized dish preferable if you want to avoid rain fade.
Universal LNB should do for Ku-band. I haven’t pointed my C-band dish to Agila 2 ao I can’t give definitive advice on the appropriate LNB but I would think a generic one would do.
Is there anybody here who can possibly help me? I lost all the channels in my cable satellite coz i accidentally press the “reset” key in the configuration table. Previously, I don’t have the local channels in my CS only the higher ones where u can find ESPN & the rest. i tried to access the configuration table & experimented on touching the keys & accidentally press the “reset” key.

For Measat 3 C-band I suggest a dish with a diameter of at least 1.8 m.

No, Dream and Gsat broadcast on different satellites (Dream – Agila 2, Gsat – NSS 11) and use different encryption systems (Dream – Nagravision, Gsat – Conax) to boot.

ang hbo, cinemax, animal planet, espn, star sports, bensports (reserved ch 1 and 2), animax, at hallmark ay wala na sa dream as of may 1, 2009. ang bensports channels ay pwede pang bumalik kasi hindi naman hawak ng dream yan.
Dream subscribers din ako,actually its not about sat or box thing ang problema is internal with in Dream contracts with the said channels, those with 850 package will be downgrade to 650 kasi hindi na available and 850 line up temporarily according sa kanila, na shock din ako immagine nwala ang HBO channels at ang espn star, anyway wala clang enuf na info dessimination hindi na problema ng subsciber and contracts with those channel, kaya nga contract e dpat they should anticipated and prepare the termination, wla clang respeto sa subsribers, its actualy a violation of consumer rights, sguro another cost cut revamp na naman ito ng dream just like 3 yrs ago. under negotiation pa kuno?! why reach may 1!

add nyo na lang mga frequency or transponders na sinabi ko sa taas.
for dream lite 390 subscribers, fta ang deutsche welle.
satellite reciever k ay dm 98..kung skali bang magpalit ng ng encryption system ang dream to nagra 3 ..pede pa paprogram ku uli yong reciever k ko sa nagra 3….ok lang basta wag lang sna mawala ang mga local channels pede ba yon

yup. nawala ang animal planet, nat geographic, at history channel as of today (6/16/09) — i don’t care dun sa foreign channels na nawala… pero local free channels eh ok pa din.

Kami po ang National Distributor ng Dream Satellite TV System pero tulad nyo ay di rin po namin control ang mga changes sa channels nila dahil reseller lang kami.
Sa mga may problema dyan sa accessories ng Homecast tulad ng Remote Control, Satellite Dish at LNB ay meron kami.
Sa mga may “hacked box” dyan…sa July 20, 2009 ay mawawalan na kayo ng signal dahil NAGRAVISION3 na tayo nyan. Pwede nyo i-avail ang SWITCHERS Package namin sa presyong Php3,990 (Satelitte Dish not included) ay may Dream Satellite TV na kayo at Homecast ang IRD namin.
Sa mga wala pa pong Dream Satellite TV dyan ay pwede kayong bumili samin ng OPEN Package sa presyong Php4,990 complete set bilhan nyo na lang ng isang Dream Card 390 para ma-activate.

to reggie of comworks. Ang skycable P280 lang ang basic mas marami pang channels. Bk puede mo isuggest sa dream na babaan pa ang monthly.
Yung mga gustong mag-avail ng SWITCHERS Package ay di po huhulihin dahil ang box po na ibinebenta namin ay legal or authorized ng NTC at Philippine Multimedia System Inc (PMSI).
Ang SWITCHER package/Plan 3990 ay galing sa Plan 4990…inalis lang namin ang Sat.Dish dahil yung dish ng mga HACKED Box nila ay magagamit pa rin…pero kung gusto nila ng set na ay dun na lang sila sa Plan 4990.

Sir, Totoo po na ang Skycable P280 lang ang basic mas marami pang channels pero di po nakikipag-Compete ang Dream sa kanila or kahit kaninong Cable Operator dahil nasa Urban po sila…ang market po ng Dream ay yung mga di kayang serbisyuhan ng linya ng Cable.
Kung sakaling nasa urban naman ang subscriber ng Cable ay pwede pa rin syang bumili ng Dream para pwede nyang dalhin ito sa kanyang beach-house or sa kanyang probinsya pag magbabakasyon.
“Baka puede mo isuggest sa Dream na babaan pa ang monthly.” Inaayos na po nila ito Sir sa taas…lahat po tayo ay waiting for further development din.

Ang Plan 3990 po ay same lang ang unit ng Plan 4990 ang pinagkaiba lang nila ay walang satellite dish ang 3990 dahil para lang ito sa mga owners ng hacked box na mapuputulan ng signal sa july 20.
Ang Plan 4990 naman po ay kumpletong set pero wala pang load, mga FTA lang ang mapapanood dito. Pwede nyo sya loadan ng Card 390 or 650 at eto ang mga mapapanood nyo as per Sir Darky:

You probably got the “unlimited” dream hack box — Dream TV recently changed their encryption to Nagra 3 so beginning June 15, you can no longer view the premium channels like Nat Geo, Animal Planet, History channel etc… Just wait until Aug. 1(?) where most of the channels are gone. (if you’re using a hack box, that is..)

re dm98, i hv a tech/friend n he changed the settings of the receiver. i was able to get abt 8 more channels (3 sports, 1movie n some chinese channels). i asked him to check the unit n he said that he was able to add abt 79 channels (all free, but didnt specify the carrier due to open scanning only). we will try to install this sunday in time for the pacquia-clottey fight. for those who bought the same unit, u can ask a expert tech to check the unit and change the settings. i will tell u after i install the unit. thanks.
